Strategic Planning
On December 15, 2006 a stakeholder group of citizens & representatives gathered together at Breaks Interstate Park, Breaks, Virginia for a planning session facilitated by Nicole Vachon-Hanlon, Canaan Valley Institute. The mission of the Coalition is to serve as an umbrella organization to better coordinate the activities in each of the represented states. The strategic planning session gathered similar issues identified from the strategic planning sessions held in each state and examined those problems from a Coalition perspective.
The BRSBC decided four issues were top priority in each state and therefore will be considered the focus of Coalition efforts.
- Wastewater/Straight Pipes
- Education
- Marketing
- Sediment Control
Each issue was assigned to a focus group both at the December meeting and each focus group was asked to meet at a later date to further elaborate on strategies the Coalition may use to improve issues common to each state. The following strategic plan is the result of these meetings and focus groups. Information concerning focus group participation and comments can be found on the Coalition’s website http://kywater.org/bsr. Each issue is identified under a main heading; strategies and action items are detailed with an associated timeline and responsible organization or agency. The Big Sandy River Basin Coalition voted to accept the strategic plan on September 21, 2007.
